Those days are a pain in the patootie! The good thing is that the day after is usually muuuuch better...except when it's worse. I guess it could go either way... I hope it's better, though!

I had THAT day yesterday, minus Barbie. It must be travelling south...

Planetary alignment is a good get-out clause for being in a class-A grump.

Good luck.

Thanks Neil, it's good to know some marketers effectively use Twitter in an ethical way. I think you have hit the nail on the head when you use the word 'engagement', surely this is what Twitter is for, not lazy advertising or spam.

Agreed. There is far too much random rubbish getting onto Twitter. As a marketeer, I am currently running a few Twitter campaigns but they are ALL done personally by me and the team and involve engagement, not hard sell.

Twitter should consider regulation to weed out these annoying parties that ruin a great service for the rest of us.

I have found it useful to think of Twitter not as a marketing outlet but as a communication with friends.

If I have something of interest to say, then people will be interested.

My error with the 'thanks' issue perhaps demonstrates my perspective. I'm not running an internet marketing business so when I thank people for following me it's usually specific and personal, and often results in two-way banter about blogs or other relevant topics.

The argument exists that as Twitter is swamped with malevolent porn profiles, it perhaps needs to make the creation of profiles less straight forward. Furthermore there perhaps needs to be a code of practice for legitimate internet businesses who want to use Twitter as an initial interface, to prevent spamming.

Thank you all for your comments, my traffic has leaped over the past couple of hours!!

I agree with most of what you posted here. Twitter is great but having a process to be verified would be a good first step. There should be a simple way to follow similar people and provide more value to your own followers next to building a large following.

Natural Twitter progresion seems like there are several additions to help navigate the way.

Seems like Twitter is just allowing people to let others know "what are you doing?"

Again good article and post.
